Episode 4: Two Key Suspects: Gerald + George (One of Which Bludgeoned a Girl to Death One Month Later)

While there were hundreds of leads that came in and suspects that were investigated, there are two suspects that the police collected evidence from and who have continued to be seen as having real potential to be identified as the murderer in this case.

George Spiros was the awkward adult son of Nick Spiros, the owner of the lodge and the most powerful man in the county. But there is more to George’s story, including his extremely suspicious suicide that occurred just days after Chester’s Attorney in 2005 contacted the State’s Attorney’s Office and suggested they look into Spiros.

Gerald Nemke, perhaps the most sinister character in this entire saga, was a 17-year-old that had violent priors on his record, and who went on to rape and bludgeon a 16-year-old girl to death only one month after the Starved Rock Murders. Shocking? There’s another murder he’s suspected of and you’ll never guess who it was that found the bodies of the 3 women…
